Macon Officer Not Assaulted According to Macon Police Department
On 10/22/2018 at approximately 11:50pm, a Macon Police Officer reported he was checking on an unknown person walking near the Macon Lake boat ramp. The officer requested assistance and later stated he had been struck from behind by a second suspect he had not observed.
Officers from the Macon Police Department, the Macon County Sheriff's Office, the North Missouri Drug Task Force, and the Missouri State Highway Patrol responded to the scene to assist and attempted to locate the suspects. The Missouri State Highway Patrol Aircraft Division and Canine Unit responded to assist in the search. No suspects were located during the search.
During the investigation, it was determined the officer had not been assaulted. The officer who reported the assault is no longer employed with the Macon Police Department. The investigation is ongoing. There is no danger to our citizens.
The Macon Police Department is being assisted in the investigation by the Missouri State Highway Patrol's Division of Drug and Crime Control. Once completed, the investigation will be submitted to the Macon County Prosecutor's Office for review. Further details cannot be released until the investigation has been completed.
