Resident at Salt River Nursing Home fully recovers from COVID-19 in Shelby County

SHELBINA, MO -- On March 24th, 2020 the Shelby County Health Department confirmed the first case of COVID-19 in Shelby County. The patient was admitted to Hannibal Regional Hospital for care. It was later confirmed that the individual was a resident at Salt River Nursing Home in Shelbina, Missouri. On April 6th, both the Salt River Nursing Home and Audrey Gough, Administrator of the Shelby Co. Health Department, confirmed to the paper that the patient has fully recovered from the virus.

"The resident that was positive is doing fine. We have had no other positive cases in residents or staff," stated Salt River Community Care.

"The patient was able to return to his residence at SRCC after being symptom free for 72 hours and test negative twice within a 24 hour span for Covid -19. We would like to commend the SRCC for their quick response and cooperation through this process. We would also like to thank HRH for their cooperation in our disease investigation and working with us to test and follow up with Public Health to assure the needs of residents are being met," stated Audrey Gough of the Shelby County Health Department.

As of this publication, April 6th (10:28 a.m.) the case mentioned above remains the only confirmed case of COVID-19 in Shelby County.
