Robert Vernon Perkins Obituary
Robert Vernon Perkins, 82, of Macon, MO, passed away on Sunday, June 9, 2024, at the Boone Medical Center in Columbia, MO, surrounded by his family.
Robert was born on August 27, 1941, in Macon, the son of William Vernon and Lillian (Skinner) Perkins. He was baptized at the First Baptist Church in Bevier, MO, when he was a senior in high school. Robert was united in marriage to Barbara Whiles on December 16, 1961, at the First Christian Church in Macon. He went to mechanic trade school in Kansas City, MO where he learned his passion to be a mechanic. He began his career as a mechanic at A.J. Nolls Dealership and then at Sutton Ford. He then worked for MODOT as a roving field mechanic for thirty years. He enjoyed working on cars, riding motorcycles, farming, hunting, watching wrestling and spending time with his family. Robert wasn’t just a family man; he was always willing to help a friend. Robert and Barbara enjoyed their Friday nights going out to dinner and conversing with friends. He never met a stranger.
Robert is survived by his wife Barbara of the home; two sons, Christopher Perkins and his wife Veronica of St. Joseph, MO and Curtis Perkins and his wife Crystal of Columbia, MO; two granddaughters, Lilly and Addy; and other extended family.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services will be 11:00 am, Friday, June 14, 2024, at the Hutton & McElwain Funeral Home in Macon. Burial will be in the Hillcrest Memorial Gardens Cemetery north of Macon. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 pm, Thursday evening, at the funeral home. The family suggests memorials to the American Heart Association.
