Sonny Purdy Obituary
Lynn Lee “Sonny” Purdy, age 75, of Shelbina, passed away Tuesday, June 4, 2024 at his home in Shelbina, MO.
Sonny was born January 31, 1949 in Macon, MO, the son of Leonard Madison and Oneta Mae (Huff) Purdy. He was united in marriage to Nancy Lee Ives on September 2, 1967 in Shelbina, MO. She survives of the home.
He is also survived by his three children, Tammy Mann and Andy of Quincy, IL, Tonya Robertson and Doug of Tightwad, MO, and Cory Purdy and Nikita of Shelbina, MO; seven grandchildren, Camden, Lily, Cody, Alyssa, Kaley, Ryan, and McKenzie; three great-grandchildren, Jennings, Sawyer, and Colton; and two sisters, Linda VonThun (Steve) of Shelbyville, MO, and Benita Jackson (Gary) of Shelbina, MO.
Preceding him in death were his parents and one sister, LaDuska Wilt.
Sonny worked at Simpson’s Shell Station, MFA, and Purdy’s Service Station in Monroe City. He had also worked for Cerro Copper for 18 years. Sonny enjoyed fishing, hunting, singing, and being a pastor. He loved all animals, especially his horse, Silver and dog, Lady. Sonny was the pastor of Lakewood Union Chapel in Hunnewell and will be deeply missed by his congregation.
Funeral services will be held at 2 pm on Friday, June 7, 2024 at the Greening-Eagan-Hayes Funeral Home in Shelbina, MO. Visitation will precede the funeral starting at 1 pm at the funeral home until the time of the service. Burial will be in Shelbina Cemetery. Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
