MACON COUNTY HISTORICAL MUSEUM MINING PROGRAM. -

You never forget your first day in the hole. There's a pit in your stomach and your mouth's full of coal. There's no turning back once you make up your mind as the cart rattles on down in the mine . . . So take a flask from your crib can and a pull of moonshine and say a prayer for them boys down in the mine. (Down in the Mine, Dierks Bentley)

Macon mines and the mulkey coal seam - a program and history will be presented by Steve Blomberg - Monday, June 10 - 6:00 pm at Macon County Historical Society Museum.

Much well deserved publicity, attention & preservation of history has been bestowed on the mining of coal around Bevier, Keota and Ardmore, whether it be underground or strip mining. The production of coal in these areas was responsible for Macon being known as the Coal King of Missouri counties.

This is another chapter of Macon county coal mining - the Macon mines and the mulkey coal seam. Join us in the presentation of this chapter of local mining history at the Macon County Historical Society Museum.
