William Shelton Houghton Obituary
William Shelton Houghton, 88, of Macon, MO, passed away on Saturday, May 25, 2024, at the Boone Medical Center in Columbia, MO.
William was born on December 27, 1935, in Macon County near New Cambria, MO, the son of Willie and Edna (Smith) Houghton. He graduated from New Cambria High School and served in the United States Army for two years serving in Germany. William was united in marriage to Barbara Clark on July 14, 1957, in Macon. William worked at Toastmaster’s for 43 years before retiring. He most recently worked as the crossing guard for Macon R-1 school for the last 20 plus years. He enjoyed gardening, raising cattle, repairing, fixing, and building things and especially spending time with family and friends.
William is survived by his wife, Barbara Houghton of the home; one son, Ronald L. Houghton of Dixon, MO; one daughter, Lori Brinkley of Brookfield, MO; four grandchildren, Elizabeth Houghton, Sarah Houghton, Ethan Houghton and Katelynn Houghton; three great grandchildren, Kenzlie, Colton and Ares; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Graveside services, with full military honors, will be 12:00 pm Friday, June 7, 2024 at the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Jacksonville, MO, with Bro. Matt Stieger officiating. Visitation will be Friday from 10:00 to 11:30 am at the Crossroads Christian Church in Macon. The family suggests memorials to the Show-Me Christian Youth Home or the Crossroads Christian Church. Arrangements are under the direction of Hutton & McElwain Funeral Home in Macon, MO.
