Graves Backs Military Assistance for Allies,

Opposes Economic Assistance to Ukraine

WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Sam Graves (MO-06) voted in support of critical legislation to secure our southern border and provide additional lethal aid to our allies in Israel, Taiwan, and Ukraine, while voting to cut funding for economic assistance to Ukraine.

“President Biden has shown unprecedented weakness to our allies and adversaries around the globe,” said Graves. “His border policies, botched withdrawal from Afghanistan, waiver of sanctions against Iran and Russia, and failure to stand up to China have invited an invasion of our southern border, Iranian attacks on Israel, Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, and threatened the future self-determination of our allies in the Indo-Pacific. Today, the House sent a clear message that we will stand up to support our allies and hold the President accountable for his failures.”

Congressman Graves voted in favor of the following bills:

The End the Border Catastrophe Act would have required the Biden Administration to restart construction of the border wall, end catch and release, and reimplement the successful Remain in Mexico Policy to secure our border and stop the flow of deadly fentanyl into our communities.

The Israel Security Supplemental Appropriations Act provides more than $26 billion to support Israel’s effort to defend itself from Iran and Hamas, including $4.4 billion to replenish U.S. defense materials and services provided to Ukraine, $2.4 billion to support U.S. military operations in the region, and $5.2 billion to replenish Israel’s Iron Dome, David’s sling, and the Iron Beam defense systems.

The Ukraine Security Supplemental Appropriations Act provides nearly $61 billion to support Ukraine’s effort to defend itself from Russia’s invasion and our allies in the region, including $48.3 billion to strengthen the U.S. defense industrial base. The legislation also converts all financial assistance to Ukraine’s government to a loan and strengthens oversight of aid.

The Indo-Pacific Security Supplemental Appropriations Act provides more than $8 billion to counter communist China and support Taiwan, including $3.3 billion to develop submarine infrastructure, $1.9 billion to replenish U.S. defense materials and services provided to Taiwan and regional partners.

The legislation provided a total of $961 million to replenish small and medium caliber ammunition provided to our allies and increase production capacity at Army ammunition plants, including Lake City Army Ammunition Plant in Independence, Missouri.

Congressman Graves also supported an amendment to the Ukraine Security Supplemental Appropriations Act to cut all non-military aid in the package.
