George Charles Carpenter, age 90, of Shelbina, MO, passed away Thursday, January 4, 2024 at the Hannibal Regional Hospital in Hannibal, MO.
George was born on July 1, 1933, in Fargo, OK, the son of Martin and Mary (Ensminger) Carpenter. He was united in marriage to Geraldine Rhoda Rice in 1958 in El Dorado Springs, MO. She preceded him in death on March 6, 2018.
He is survived by four children, Charles Carpenter of Hannibal, MO, Teresa Kunce (Sam) of Shelbina, MO, Rhoda Lopez (Alonzo) of Marshall, TX, and Ronald Carpenter (Carrie) of Callao, MO; 13 grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; and his siblings, Bobby Carpenter (Linda), Jerry Carpenter, Kay Hershman, Lilli Carpenter, and Alan Carpenter all of El Dorado Springs, MO .
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; two step sons, Harlan Simrell and Caroll Simrell; and three brothers, Lawrence Carpenter, Cecil Carpenter, and Donald Carpenter.
George served his country in the U.S. Army for four years. He was a member of Shelbina Christian Church. He was an avid remote control plane builder and enjoyed flying them at Marblehead, IL. He loved to work and spend time at home.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 8, 2024 at 11 am at the Greening-Eagan-Hayes Funeral Home in Shelbina, Missouri. A visitation will precede the funeral service starting at 10 am. Burial will be held in the Union Cemetery, south of Clarence, Missouri. Memorials may be made to Shelbina Christian Church or Salt River Community Care.
