Suspect In Monroe County Homicide Arrested

On July 28, 2023, investigators with the Missouri State Highway Patrol’s Division of Drug and Crime Control and the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office conducted a search of a rural Monroe County pond, in connection with the investigation into the 2021 disappearance of Betty L. Hayes, of Holliday, Missouri. On July 28, 2023, at 1440 hours, members of the Missouri State Highway Patrol Dive Team recovered human remains from the pond. An autopsy of the remains will be performed at a later date.

On July 28, 2023, at approximately 2010 hours, investigators arrested Lyle W. Miller, 65, of Madison, Missouri, for the murder of Hayes. The Monroe County Prosecutor has formally charged Miller with second degree murder, and he is being held without bond.

The above charges are mere accusation and are not evidence of guilt. Evidence in support of these charges must be presented before a court of competent jurisdiction whose duty is to determine guilt or innocence.
