COVID-19 Update during the week of January 5th-January 11th

(Macon County, MO) – During the week of January 5-January 11, we tracked 159 new cases of COVID-19, compared to 111 last week, 35 the week before, and 67 the week before. There are 7 new residents hospitalized this week. Of these 159 new cases, 69 were vaccinated and 25 reinfections, of which 9 of the reinfections were also vaccinated. Of the last 1,444 cases, 1,161 were not vaccinated.

Of the 159 positive cases, 16 were 19 years of age and under; 30 in their 20’s; 21 in their 30’s; 32 in their 40’s; 19 in their 50’s; 14 in their 60’s; 13 in their 70’s; 10 in their 80’s; and, 4 in their 90’s. Most of this week’s new cases are in Macon city (99 cases), Anabel (2 cases), Atlanta (9 cases), Bevier (15 cases), Bucklin (0 cases), Callao (10 cases), Elmer (1 case), Ethel (0 cases), Excello (4 case), Jacksonville (2 cases), La Plata (12 cases), and New Cambria (5 cases).

Macon County continues to see a rise in cases of COVID-19 this week. Continue to use mitigation measures to protect yourself and others from COVID-19 such as wear a well-fitting mask, stay home when sick, avoid crowded indoor spaces and ventilate the air when possible. The best protection against severe illness and hospitalization due to COVID-19 is vaccination. Macon County Health Department offers COVID-19 clinics weekly for initial and booster doses and nurses are knowledgeable and can answer any questions or concerns. Samaritan Hospital has pediatric vaccine for 5 – 11-year-old children.
