Covid Update-During the week of July 17 – July 27, 2021

(Macon County, MO) – During the week of July 17 – July 27, 2021, there were 34 new cases of COVID-19. Currently, there are 54 active cases with 5 residents hospitalized. Of these 34 new cases, only 4 were vaccinated with 2 of these vaccinated in the hospital, and, none were reinfection. Of the last 240 cases, 224 were not vaccinated. We received notice that DHSS tested another resident positive for the Delta variant. And, we received notice of another COVID-19 related death in the county.

Of the 34 positive cases, 5 were under 19; 3 in their 20’s; 3 in their 30’s; 7 in their 40’s; 7 in their 50’s; 3 in their 60’s; 1 in their 70’s; and 4 in their 80’s. Most of this week’s new cases are in Macon city (20 cases), Atlanta (4 cases), Bevier (1 case), Callao (1 case), La Plata (6 cases), Elmer (1 case), and Excello (1 case).

DHSS still considers Macon County a COVID-19 hotspot due to rising positivity and case rates. We encourage testing if you are symptomatic and vaccination if you haven’t received it. DHSS is hosting a free drive-through testing event on Friday July 30, from 11:00 am – 7:00 pm at the Macon County fairgrounds. Results will be provided within 72 hours of testing. Macon County Health Department continues to give the Johnson & Johnson and the Moderna vaccines weekly in our office.
