July 15, 2021

(Macon County, MO) – During the week of July 7 – July 13, 2021, there were 39 new cases of COVID-19. Currently, there are 36 active cases with 4 residents hospitalized. Of these 39 new cases, only 3 were vaccinated and none were reinfection.

Macon County cases are significantly up from the prior week and positive case counts are up almost 44% this month over the number of cases during the same period in June. Of the last 174 new cases, 166 were not vaccinated. Most of this week’s new cases are in Macon city (18 cases), but Atlanta (3 cases), Bevier (5 cases), Callao (3 cases), and La Plata (2 cases) are experiencing cases as are Ethel and Excello.

We have seen the Delta variant present in our sewershed (wastewater) and have now had two residents test positive for the variant per DHSS although not all cases are being tested for the variant. Moderna, Pfizer and Johnson & Johnson vaccines are safe, free of charge, and proving effective against variants or minimizing health effects for those few vaccinated people who become infected.
