Missouri Governor announces statewide stay-at-home order

JEFFERSON CITY -- In a press conference on Friday, April 3rd, Missouri Governor Mike Parson announced a stay-at-home order that will go into effect on April 6th and will expire on April 24th. Missouri is one of the last states to implement an order like this. Governor Parson reiterated that his greatest responsibility is to protect the health and safety of Missourians. On March 21st, the Governor issued a social distancing order limiting gatherings of no more than 10 persons. Missouri on April 3rd, reached over 2,000 positive cases of COVID-19. 76 counties of Missouri's 114 counties are reporting cases of the virus. Over 1,000 Missourians have filed for unemployment during this time.

The stay-at-home order instructs all Missourians (over 6 million) to stay at their place of residence, avoid social gatherings, and schools must remain closed. The Governor stated that Mayors, County Commissioners and Executives have the right to implement more restrictive measures if needed.
