James Irvin Scott Obituary

James Irvin “Jim” Scott, 88, of Macon, MO, passed away on Thursday, April 4, 2024 at the Pioneer Nursing Home in Marceline, MO.

Jim was born on February 14, 1936 in Alexandria City, AL, the son of Cecil and Emma Ozella (Sasser) Scott. He was united in marriage to Jacqueline Wood McLaughlin on September 10, 1994 in Warsaw, MO.

Jim is survived by his wife, Jacqueline Scott of the home; two children, Lisa Belle Scott-Guthrie and her husband Keith Warren Guthrie of Visalia, CA, and James Fletcher Scott and his wife Heather Scott of Pennsylvania; five grandchildren; and other extended family members.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Paul Scott and Edwin Scott; and two sisters, Mary Frances Swanson and Laura Emma “LE” Patton.

Jim worked for his first radio station while in high school and continued his career as a disc jockey in college at Auburn University in Alabama. After college he had various radio and television broadcasting jobs, and recorded two records before moving into broadcast management for stations in Odessa, Houston, Austin, and Beaumont Texas. Subsequently, he was elected President of the Texas Association of Broadcasters.

In his late thirties, he took a position for Denver Broadcasting Corporation to head up their radio broadcasting division, which brought him and his family to Kansas City. In his forties, he began selling real estate and started his own real estate corporation, which he subsequently sold to his partner and he began doing “talent work” in Kansas City, recording industrial, training, and advertising films. He retired from his talent work in Kansas City at 72 years of age, after completing a 50 year career in 3 different industries.

After marrying Jacque, they purchased a home outside of Warsaw and Clinton, Missouri on Truman Lake. Jim enjoyed fishing and hunting and he and Jacque enjoyed many years living on Truman Lake.

A private Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of Hutton & McElwain Funeral Home in Macon, MO.
